StormCatcher Weighted Sediment Filter Tube
StormCatcher is a multipurpose tubular BMP, used where a temporary robust filter berm is needed. The textile is tough and long-lasting. The fill is patent-pending heat-treated rice hull mixed with gravel that forms a high-flow, high sediment retention 3-dimensional filtering matrix. This bio-reactive material targets waterborne pollutants such as oil sheen and heavy metals.
Similar products that use old ground up tires just can’t do this. Because rice hulls originate in water, they are slow to degrade in wet conditions, but will eventually biodegrade –rubber won’t. StormCatcher is lighter and easier to maneuver than rubber wattles and no more getting poked with wires because there are no wires –it’s just environmentally friendly heat-treated rice hulls and gravel.
Benefits:
- Textile is 1/8-inch opening heavy-duty Polyethylene
- Four integrated straps for easy moving
- Fill is all-natural rice hulls and gravel
- No sharp wires
- Lighter and easier to handle than rubber-filled wattles
- Field longevity of up to one year
- Available in Hi-Vis orange for maximum visibility
Frequently Asked Questions
StormCatcher is a weighted sediment filter tube used when a temporary, robust filter berm is needed on site. It combines heat-treated rice hulls and gravel inside a heavy-duty textile to provide effective sediment retention.
Runoff flows into and through the tubular filter, where the rice hull-and-gravel matrix traps sediment and slows water velocity. The result is a high-flow, high-sediment-retention 3-D filtering matrix that performs well under active site conditions.
StormCatcher is commonly installed as a temporary filter berm or barrier along disturbed soil perimeters or runoff pathways. Its weight and stability make it well suited for construction sites and stormwater sediment control applications.
StormCatcher is constructed with a heavy-duty polyethylene textile and filled with a patent-pending blend of heat-treated rice hulls and gravel. This combination delivers strong filtration performance while remaining lighter than rubber-filled alternatives.
StormCatcher is lighter and easier to handle than rubber-filled sediment tubes and contains no sharp wires. Depending on site conditions, field longevity can reach up to one year.
Yes. StormCatcher is available with high-visibility orange netting to improve jobsite safety and placement visibility. Integrated straps allow easier movement and repositioning as site conditions change.
The rice hull media biodegrades naturally over time and can act as a soil amendment if removed from the outer textile, and left in place. This makes StormCatcher a more environmentally friendly option than rubber-filled wattles that do not degrade.
StormCatcher is available in common lengths such as 12 ft and 18 ft, allowing flexible placement along perimeters or as temporary sediment barriers.
